Youth Apprenticeships
Career & Financial Lit Speakers

Recruiters from the different branches of the service have stopped in and shared with the students how serving in the military could affect their finances and financial planning. Several students who are planning to enter the military also shared what their specific branches can do for them financially.

Nekoosa High Schools Work-Based Learning options continue to grow in the Youth Apprenticeship area. The 2016-17 school year had an IT Youth Apprentice assist district IT staff with needs and they are looking for this help to continue in the future. New YA opportunities are becoming available all the time, so if you are interested, please see me. Youth Apprentices get on the job training, while also earning high school credit for the hours they are on the jobsite.

What is new in Business Ed?

The Business Ed. department is up to great new things, including teaching new technology tools to students and adding transcripted credit. Here are a few of the latest activities that have been going on.

Starting with the Class of 2018, all Nekoosa students will need to take Career and Financial Literacy as a graduation requirement. This class will help students learn how to manage money, balance checkbooks, write checks, apply for loans, complete tax forms, and much more. They will also write a professional resume and investigate post-secondary options and how to apply for a job. This course is offered to seniors only.
