The Business Education Department offers a wide variety of courses for students to choose from to prepare them to enter the business world after graduation.  Below are all the courses offered by the department and a brief description of what to expect in each.

Business & Marketing Principles

Did you know that over 75% of all jobs in the US involve some aspect of marketing?  This introductory course is perfect for all student who want to learn more about business and marketing.  Students in Marketing will gain a basic understanding of what marketing is, as well as, economics and the 4 P's of marketing. Students will learn these concepts through a variety of high-energy methods, such as projects, videos, activities, and traditional classroom instruction.  Marketing gives students the unique ability to exercise their teamwork, creativity, and business skills.  Business & Marketing Principles is highly recommended for any student who plans to pursue a business career.

Publications

Do you want to make your high school memories come to life? Do you have a passion for photography? If you answered yes, then Yearbook is the class for you.  Students will learn how to take high-quality pictures and create a wonderful yearbook from scratch that will capture memories to last a lifetime.  Along with the creation of the Yearbook students will also learn the basics of Web Page Design.  Basic HTML coding will be learned and then used to create webpages for the Nekoosa High School webpage, using the images we have captured throughout the year for the yearbook.  You are able to take this course multiple times.

 

College Accounting

Accounting is a must take course for any student considering a two- or four-year college degree in accounting, business, or marketing.  Accounting is currently one of the most in-demand college majors.  Students will develop a foundation in basic accounting theory and procedures.  Computers will be used to process business financial information by journalizing and posting business transactions to general and subsidiary ledgers, preparing financial statements, and learning about payroll records and taxes for a service business organized as a sole proprietorship.  Students will also learn about special journals, uncollectible accounts, assets and depreciation, inventory, notes and interest.

Career & Financial Literacy

You will be plunged into a world of financial options from the first day you walk out of school.  Along with this comes making many crucial decisions that can and will affect your entire life.  This course covers many important topics to help you make wise decisions.  Topics covered will be: money management strategies, consumer protection strategies, banking, the importance of good credit, fundamentals of investing (stocks, bonds, mutual funds), income tax preparation, housing options, risk management (insurance), and retirement planning.

 

*This course is required for graduation and is taken during a student's senior year.

 

Intro to Business

This course will assist students in developing a better understanding and preparation for their role as future business and community leaders.  Students will be actively engaged in activities, simulations, and projects to develop a basic understanding of economics, business ownership and management, marketing, banking, savings and investments, consumer rights and responsibilities, human resources, job seeking and leadership skills, social responsibilities of business, and the importance of ethical decision-making in their personal and business world.  Students will also be introduced to a variety of career options available to them.
